6. Waffle











waffle is a dish made from         leavened batter or dough that is cooked between two plates that are patterned to give a characteristic size, shape, and surface impression. There are many variations based on the type of waffle iron and recipe used. Waffles are eaten throughout the world, particularly in Belgium, which has over a dozen regional varieties. Waffles may be made fresh or simply heated after having been commercially cooked and frozen.


Ingredients:

1 cup (130 grams) all-purpose flour

1/4 cup (30 grams) cornstarch

1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 tablespoon sugar

1 cup (235 ml) buttermilk or milk

1/3 cup (80 ml) vegetable oil

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 large egg

Butter, syrup and/or berries, for serving

Instruction:

  • Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer's directions (or to 400°F if your waffle maker has a temperature gauge).
  • Place flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  • Whisk to combine.
  • In a small bowl, mix egg yolks, milk, butter, and vanilla extract.
  • Set aside.
  • In a separate medium bowl, beat egg whites with a mixer on medium high speed until stiff peaks form. 
  • Add the egg yolk mixture to the dry ingredients and stir to combine.
  • Gently fold in the egg whites.
  • Drop by large spoonfull onto greased waffle iron until most of the wells are covered.
  • Close the lid and cook for about 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.
